Seven Questions with Paul Regnier

By: Morgan Busse In: Interview

Hey everyone! This month we have our very own Paul Regnier for our seven questions interview. Paul is a technology junkie and web designer with a fascination for all things futuristic. He has turned his childhood love of storytelling into a professional pursuit.

Please join me in welcoming Paul today!

Paul Regnier

1) What is your favorite part of speculative fiction?

There’s no limits to the imagination. For me, it’s the genre of writing that sets creativity free. You can create your own worlds, language, technology, magic, cultures, transportation, and more.

2) Everyone seems to have a “how I got published” story. What is yours?

I would like to encourage fellow writers to press on. I went through years of writing for fun which gradually turned into more of a professional pursuit. Once I began to submit with hopes of publication, there were dozens of rejections to deal with. It can be a discouraging process. Also, it can take many moons for an agent or publisher to get back to you. They have so many submissions to review, it’s just the nature of the biz that it takes time. It’s a true test of patience for the aspiring writer.

I finally broke through when I submitted to Enclave Publishing back when it was still called Marcher Lord Press. During the transition to Enclave, my manuscript was reviewed and accepted (Cue angelic music and heaven’s light shining down).

3) If you could travel anywhere for book research (all expenses paid) where would you go and why?

New Zealand. A visit to the hobbit holes alone would be worth the trip.

4) What were some of the challenges for you writing your book?

Time. It seems there’s never enough. The time it takes to write and edit and rewrite is a considerable investment. For those with unlimited cash flow, I’m sure it’s just like those movies depict with the writer relaxing on a summer day, smiling as they casually sip their coffee. In reality, it means balancing a job, family and friends and missing sleep. Don’t get me wrong, for those of us that love it, the writing experience itself is without compare, but it’s definitely a challenge to find the time to wedge into a busy life.

5) Do you listen to music while you write? If so what are some examples?

Nope. I love music. I even play drums and a little guitar. But when I write, I crave silence. The quieter the better. It allows me to get lost in the story world without distraction.

6) How would you like to be remembered?

As someone who loved God, my wife and kids, and created a positive impact in the world.

7) What is your favorite thing you have ever written?

I just finished my Space Drifters series and I’d have to say it was a blast to write. I hope people enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
